How can I use SD card as root or home in Cacko 1.23?

I'm trying to see if its possible to mount my SD card as root or home in Cacko 1.23. Any ideas?

Formatting it as type 83 (linux) mounted as ext2 is now a mess and it cannot be automounted. So should I reformat it back to Fat16 and forget about ipkg install onto this sd card?

Ideas and comments?

I don't think it's easily possible to have a card for the root fs.
But as home it should be no problem.
Just format as ext2, create directories for every user and link them into /home

But be careful not to use software which needs files in home when the card is not inserted. This can lead to interesting effects.

Anyway, I gave up and reformatted it back to fat16.

Did you try Meanie's automounter package? I think it also has a new SD handler script.

Yes, now it automounts ... didn't know about the automounter package.

I have an ext2-formatted SD card, that also automounts in Cacko 1.23.   No additional automount packages installed.

Is there a reason you need to use ext3?   It seems that the journaling on ext3 might wear the card out faster since it's doing more writes.

An ext3 card would mount perfectly fine as ext2 but automounters usually try to detect the used FS (which would be ext3 in this case) and try to mount that FS. If the ext3 module is not loaded / available it would fail.

A work-around would be to hardwire the card to ext2 (not auto).

The sd card was formatted as type 82 (linux) ... and when manually mounted, identify as ext2. I've seen reformatted it as FAT16 (6) and it works fine.

I have another sd which I can try out or I may be getting another SD for storage and may want to try that out again.
