Where To Go From Here?
« on: June 21, 2006, 02:04:53 pm »
Ok, the great day has come. I bought a Memorex 64 mb CF card (samsung) and could succesfully flush my SL-5500 wit OZ-GPE. I got it up and running but I'm missing some software (mail. web browser, ftp...). I tryed to download some packages from the feeds listed on the package manager but I couldn't update the database (I'm using a WCF12 card).

Any sugestions or recomendations?

Yep; thought it was just me, but the [a href=\"http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl]http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl[/url] mirror seems to be inaccessible at the moment.

Ok after some troble I got the Hentges GPE rom up and running. As I said before I like GPE a lot, basicly the X11 and the GNOME style but I'm still mising some apps I realy use to use on my sharp rom. Althoug most of the apps I used I was able to find them on the Henteges rom I like using my zaurus as an mp3 player. So far I don't find an ultimate solution for this.

Could anybody make VLC to run on zaurus's GPE? I saw some screenshots at the GPE site. What about Gnuplot?

Thanks

Never tried VLC, gnuplot works fine from the feed/OE metadata (if it's not in the feed).

I use VLC on Windows all the time. Great player and skips the annoying warning about copy protection at the beginning. I especially like the ones that display the notice in every single language. Why penalise the honest owners of the DVD's beats me. Anyway, sorry about that got a bit carried away.

Yea VLC rocks. So what would kind of work is involved in porting an app to the Zaurus? I've used a wide range of languages from C to Ruby but never had to port anything except a C++ app to Java but that's not the same as porting it to a different machine. Sorry perhaps a little off topic but if I have an idea how much work is involved I may have a go.

Don't jump to conclusions yet. I get a segmentation fault when I try to run it . so mileage may vary. Let us know how it goes for you.
