Av500 - Dark Video On Playback?
« on: June 10, 2006, 06:43:02 am »
I just got an AV560. I like it a lot but the video playback is too dark.

I have the brightness set to max (2) and there are still problems seeing the screen unless I am in a dark environment.  I can improve it a little by adjusting the screen angle but if this is the best I can get then I am disappointed.

This occurs even on the bundled 'Buddah Bar Nature Trailer' so its not to do with my video material.

Do I have a duff screen / unit? Is there any way to make it brighter on playback?

This may well be the case, as all videos on my archos av500 30gb play with good brightness, even in daylight.

What you can do on many video converting programs is to add brightness to the file (you can in many cases also increase contrast); if you are recording from a tv, you can manually increase the brightness of the recording on the recording settings menu.
My preferred encoder is the 'Pocket DivX Encoder', which specifically converts videos to archos format. This program allows you to increase the brightness aswell.

If it is really that big a problem, id suggest asking for a new one.
