Are Videos Any Good On 5x00?
« on: February 09, 2006, 05:25:26 pm »
I'm interested in buying a Sharp Zaurus.  I would rather get something with VGA but prices are just too high.  Is video playback any good on these 206mhz QVGA devices such as the SL-5500.  I am coming from Palm OS where we got HVGA but I usually can't stand QVGA on PPC devices.

Cheers,

It's not too bad; depending on the type of file you're playing, the player you're using, and the ROM you're running, the quality can range from spotty to really quite good. i've used the native player included with the Sharp ROMs, the SmartMovie commercial player, and the VLC player. I tried to run MPlayer, the Java app, but it didn't work for me. I used to run a commercial player on my Palm treo90 but the quality sucked and the screen was too small anyway.

The zaurus will take a nice large CF card, which will hold a lot of movie.

Video quality on Palm OS now is great.  TCPMP.

Anyway, could you get me a screenshot or something?

I've never done a screenshot on my 5500, not sure I know how. Let me get back to you on that.
