Outliner For Pdaxrom: Leo
« on: August 10, 2006, 12:02:09 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to use the Leo Outliner, which seems to be a terrific application, on pdaXrom 1.1.0beta3.
It has not been written for the Zaurus, but since it's a Python app, it should run on pdaXrom.

It uses python and Tcl/Tk.
Python is natively part of pdaXrom.
Additionally I installed
tcl_8.4.6_arm.ipk and
tk_8.4.6_arm.ipk

If I try to start Leo using
python /path/to/leo.py

I get the mssage (which is part of the leo.py code):
isValidPython: can not import leoGlobals

I'm no Python expert, so I'm not able to track that down.
Anyone willing to help out?
If we get Leo running on the Zaurus we'd have a great new application for outlining, report generation, maybe even website generation, literal programming etc!

Thanks
daniel

Okay, with ZDevils help I am now also able to run the Leo outliner.
It was necessary to install the large Python 2.4.1 package. Originally I thought it would be part of pdaXrom anyway, so I didn't care about installing it. But it was not, so many python modules were missing.

Leo starts now without problems, but it takes a minute or so.

In the log window, the font size is too small. This can be adjusted in the settings outline.

Leo is quite slow on the Zaurus. I'd like to avoid overclocking for it, because the outliner will be a centrl app for me which should stay open all the time and available all the time.
So I'll look into optimizatoins, or maybe running an old version.

However, this is just the beginning. I'l have to see if Leo fits my needs (full keyboard operability for example, convenient font size adjustments, features etc.)

If anyone's interested in that, too, let's discuss it here. Maybe we can make Leo a good Zaurus outliner.

There are other options, too, for which I will start different threads as needed.

Glad to see that LEO works for you. Eager to see how LEO does the PIM jobs. (But no more time for me to try for now so LEO is not in my to-do list ... )

emacs with org-mode (http://staff.science.uva.nl/~dominik/Tools/org/), howm (http://howm.sourceforge.jp/) or planner works very well on Zaurus

Emacs is fully controlable from the keyboard, fully customizable and with more features than you want.
