Need Of Extra Mirror?
« on: September 04, 2006, 04:22:19 am »
I own a sun fire v120 server in a data center with 2gbit line.
The server has a full 100mbit port (no limits) and its located in athens/greece.

Do you need an extra mirror?

Thnx,

PS: I can host *any* other linux, gnu, opensource project as well.

Hi Tasos,

I've been looking for a (free) hosting site to create a web site for "Zaurus
stuff", mostly HOWTOs, notes, my experiences, my original wallpapers,
and some software.  If the software is not 100% opensource, would it
still fit into the category of what you are willing to host?

For example, a while back in the "User Requests for Applications" forum,
"Bam" said he would donate money for a version of the Space Trader game,
which ran natively on the Zaurus.  I originally thought this would be something
I could develop in a few days.  After many days of excruciating trial/error work
on extracing the (incompletely documented) resources from a PRC (binary
PalmOs executable), as well as endian translation, I got all the data I need,
except that of the "forms" which represent the majority of the GUI.  There appears
to be 57 forms in the game!

In the past, I would not mind sharing source code, since it was very easy to
find a high-level SW Engineering position in my area, with job security and
high wages.  These days folks are leaving the area, and/or changing careers,
and for now I wish to remain here, and possibly take another stab at creating my
own company.  I have lots of code I developed at my own expense from a prior
attempt, and although I will gladly offer the programs at no cost (donations welcomed),
it is not in my interest to give the source code away.

If this sounds reasonable to you, I would like to take you up on your offer of
web/ftp hosting!

I hate to have to read banners, and I hate to force others to do so.  I recently tried
a free site ( [a href=\"http://johmis9.100webspace.net/]http://johmis9.100webspace.net/[/url] ) and not only are the banners
annoying, but there must be a file limit, since the version of POVRAY for pdaXrom
that I compiled was about 6MB and gets deleted right after I upload it!

Anyway, enough rambling, let me know, and THANKS!

John

Hi.  What I meant was, some of the things I would like to provide on
a web page, would not have *all* of the source code available for them.

In the case of wallpapers, this would mean that I would not provide the
POVRAY "source code" for the scenes I generate.  In the case of  a
program I may develop such as a "port" of Space Trader to the Zaurus
(or any LINUX/X11 really), I would not provide source code for complex and
"tedious to develop" layers, which I may ultimately encompass in some commercial
software a later time to sustain my existence.

Some folks are against anything that is not completely open source.  You might
have been just offering to mirror current opensource software that already exists in
other places.

Never mind, but thanks...  I think I'm going to see how using 100webspace.net
goes, and it might be a while before I organize my stuff suitable for a website anyway...
