Quicktime Movie - Odd Audio Format, No Sound
« on: January 13, 2007, 01:53:23 pm »
I downloaded 23 tutorials in Quicktime *.mov format.
These play fine on my windows machine with Quicktime installed.
I attached a screenshot of these movie's properties while playing them in windows.
It shows that the audio format is:
Qualcomm PureVoice| Mono, 8.000 kHz

When I play these movies in kino2 with mplayer, the video is fine, but there is no sound.
When looking at the movie's properties in kino, all the audio properties have "zero" (0).
So there must be something incompatable with the above "Qualcomm PureVoice" audio format.
Is there a codec that I need, or is this audio format not supported? or "not ever" going to be supported?

C3100 with Cacko 1.23

Thank you,
Jon

Jon,

If this isn't paid content, put up link and I will check it on my Kubuntu Edgy box. I've got a decent variety of players and codecs installed, maybe I can gather more information.

I've found [a href=\"http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GSpot.htm]GSpot[/url] to be very helpful for determining what codecs are required for playing video & audio.  Don't know if it will help you in this instance, since Quicktime seems to have determined what the audio format is.

Here's the link. I just saved each page and then saved each movie for later use.

I just tried GSpot, it didn't identify this video

Thank you

Well... I couldn't play it within firefox and didn't want to start installing add-ons. I am pretty sure that mediaplayerconnectivity would sort it out, but I find it a bit annoying on my other boxen. The wackiness of the cgi wrapper makes it a bit confusing. When I download it and click on it to play, konqueror/kmplayer launch and with either the mplayer or xine engine, I get great sound, but no video   So, I think I have the solution for you if you can click very fast you should be able to launch two players at the same time and get video in one and audio in the other   I have libquicktime0 installed and I imagine that mplayer/xine are using that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
