My guess is that debian or pdaxrom are the fastest ROMs.  Since the both handle floating point better than Sharp based ROMs like Cacko.  Both also have newer kernels and are compiled with newer versions of gcc.

yes, any 2.6 kernel system like Debian or Angstrom will be quickest in raw performance, there's probably a variant of pdaXrom with a 2.6 kernel that would also be good. For video playback the tetsu kernel for Cacko with bvdd stuff will probably keep up with anything.

Based on my experiences with 2.6 kernels (OZ, Angstrom, Poky, & pdaXROM) the speed gains are overrated at best. Cacko and pdaXii13 with evilJazz 2.4 kernel is faster for the operations that matter to me (full screen video playback & scummVM cutscene playback).  Loading up FireFox in 25 seconds (2.6) versus 30 seconds (2.4) didn't matter to me one bit when my main uses were so disappointing under the 2.6 kernels.

I have recently gotten debian running on a C1000 from a 4 gig sd card.  It is a notch slower than pdaxii13 was.  Is this because it is running from the sd card whereas pdax was running from internal flash?  Would debian be faster running from a cf card?  I am assuming that it runs faster on a C3200 because of the internal drive, but have no direct evidence of this.

I've never really seen benchmarks applied to using the zaurus like they are to windows boxes, at least in great detail. Might be good to have a wiki page listing various benchmarks so that the different distros could be measured and tuned?

If so, it would be a good idea to specify 'faster at what.' Pdaxii, sharp/cacko will have faster/better media playback (as we know), and arguably might play games better.  The differences between X and QTE might also be a factor to the inquirer.  Someone who wants to play quake or watch a video will get no benefit from a 2.6 based os...etc. you know this stuff perfectly well.

What I understand from the slow performance on debian mainly has to do with video issue (playback and games). This is not the problem of debian itself but a kernel issue. Angstrom is also running kernel 2.6 and has similar issues. The world is moving still.
