Midori And New Ted Version!
« on: June 25, 2007, 07:21:58 am »
Hi!

I've not posted in some time as my Z is still broke- does anyone know the e-mail address at Sharp Japan for inquiring about Z repairs? However, I've got some very good news for users of embedded X11 so I thought I'd come share it with you all.

Today I have been trying out a test release of the new Ted version, the lightweight word processor for Motif/X11. Ted v2.19c3 most important new feature for me is that it now features easy access to the text alignment functions (left, right, centre, justify) from under the format menu as I'd requested, instead of having to dig through several menus to find these options. I think Mark has also added TOC generation support and other stuff. I never liked waiting 20/30 secs for Abiword to load under pdaX but Ted loads in a few seconds. Shame it doesn't support word files but even the latest Abiword versions .doc support is far from perfect so as far as I'm concerned Ted is the best choice of WP for pdaX/Angstrom users.

The other thing that pdaX/Angstrom really badly needs is a fast, lightweight and stable web browser. Last I heard was that both Kazehakase and osb-browser were too unstable to be of any use under pdaXii13- is this still the case? What about under Angstrom? Well, now we have yet another potential candidate for a suitable pdaX web browser- Midori.

http://software.twotoasts.de/?page=midori

I'd be very grateful if someone could try midori out under pdaXii13 and see if its any more stable and usable than Kazehakase and osb-browser. If it works well then I'll be talking me dad into putting pdaXii13 back on in place of cacko as his every reason to stay with crapo will be obliterated then (except if he is really bothered about pdaXii13s longer resume time).

Thanks!

dan

EDIT

I'm not expecting much from midori right now as it does say its early alpha stage and to expect crashes, but I've been wondering if someone had managed to get Kazehakase or osb working better somehow?
