how do you take screenshots under openbsd ???

I use scrot (compiled on my own). It's a very tiny yet handy screenshot tool.

Knowing tha most of my recent posts have related to problems on OpenBSD, I thought it would be nice to post some of my successes. This is an old thread,  I thought that even some of the Debian followers might like to see what can be done on OpenBSD with relatiely little effort. I've not been able to do this much on Titchy, Yonggun or Zubunu Linux although all three distributions have impressed me and will suit some other people perfectly.

I'm running OpenBSD 4.4 and as you can see, icewm as my window manager. Icewm is nice and responsive yet still quite flexible. I've also found it easier to get font sizes that are readable on such a small screen. The apps shown are just a fraction of what I've got running on it. Compiling can take a long time but the process has been pretty reliable, so it is well worth the wait to know that you'll end up with a package that is optimised for the actual CPU, not just ARM architecture.

So, here we go...

Forgive the poor colours on these shots which are due to the version of VNC that I've used to capture them. In reality the colours are bright and vivid and the wallpaper fades nicely from black to blue.


Screen2 shows Minimo and xterm while Driftnet captures any image files that happen to be floating elsewhere in the wireless ether. Driftnet works in promiscuous mode. As a browser, Minimo is a good compromise between speed and functionality. I'm currently comiling Galeon which is also quite useful on the Z


Screen3 shows the Etherape network mapper and a client for Nessus, the network vulnerability scanner (note nessusd is the server and that is also running on the Z)


Screen4 Time for some office applications Here ares gnumeric and abiword.


Screen5 shows use of PERL to run the SQLiX vulnerability scanner. Any PERL modules not in the ports tree can be downloaded and compiled without problem from CPAN. Try doing that from Cacko or Angstrom !

There are some pretty heavy-weight applications here and they all run fine provided there is plenty of swap.

I've compiled jamvm and classpath from the 4.4 port tree but I've found that the java application I want to run fails with a core dump. I'm trying to run paros proxy which says it requires Java runtime 1.4.2.

Any help here would be welcome.
