Is Zaurus a latin word?

I don\'t think so (at least it\'s not in my Latin dictionary).

From a quick scan of Fowler\'s Modern English Usage, it is suggested that if it really were a Latin word then you\'d still have to be careful about using Zauri, but it should probably be Zauruses.

Do whatever is probably the best solution ;-)

Hi!
I think, the plural is \"zaurus\", because Zaurus is a japanese word (invited by sharp) and the japanese have no plural forms. So it is
one zaurus
two zaurus
three zaurus
eleven zaurus
X zaurus

As Zaurus is a \"proper name\", the plural would be Zauruses
I concur with jabbath on the Japanese-plural issue, but that only counts when you\'re in Japan

My preference is for Zaurus, because it is correct for a Japanese word and Zauruses is just silly.

For what it\'s worth.

argh! that kitty!

I saw this posted somewhere:

--------------------------------------------------------

like all Zaurii before it

Zaurus -] Zauri.

I know that you can quibble about what the plural of \'virus\' is as it\'s derived from an uncountable noun, but as Zaurus is clearly derived from Saurus (=lizard)

1 Saurus -] 2 Sauri
1 Zaurus -] 2 Zauri

\'Zaurii\' is obviously the plural of \'Zaurius\', as \'Triarii\' is the plural of \'Triarius\'. Now go and write \'romani ite domus\' on the wall 100 times.

All you guys don\'t think wrong!
Zaurus is the \"saurs\" in dinosaurs (eg. Tyrannosaurus   Rex) in Japanese and Sharp used that name probably because it sounds good.

Nice work Varti, digging out this old thread.

I throw in "Zaurids" or "Zauridae" !

Why? because thats how their big brothers are called: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrannosauridae
