Android Noob: How do I backup/restore my Gemini?

I know real men don't do backups, but I do backups.
How does one go about doing backups and restores of the Gemini?
Preferably using Linux (I use Gentoo), but I will dual boot to Windows 10 if I have to, like I used to do with my iPhone.

It sort of depends on what you want to back up.  If it some files on the Gemini then just plug it in (make sure the USB is set to MTP) and copy them across.  If it's contacts then there's a settings option (under personal).  I use Ubuntu and if I remember correctly (it was a long time ago I set this up) had to install the MTP libraries to get it to work.  I've never used Gentoo so can't really help on that but your package manager should be able to find them for you if you need them.

I sync all my calendars and contacts to 'Nextcloud', so I am not concerned about all that, it's the settings and apps I am trying to backup.

Titanium Backup will do this, but I think the phone may need to be rooted. Available from  Play Store. User manual here.

Since I use Google services, all my photos, contacts, emails and calendar data are stored by Google.
I occasionally take the memory card out of my phone and back it up, which ensures I also backup the full resolution copy of my photos.

I always root my phone and use titanium backup, so I can backup all other apps and their configuration and data.

Helium app can backup your data and system without root, but you need PC & usb.

Too bad that Planet's SP Flash tool seem to not support the Upload of a partition (at least by looking at the screenshots on the Support page), in order to reflash it at a later stage, it would be handy as a backup tool.

Now that I'm ready to dual boot linux, I've discovered that this will essentially lead to wiping and reinstalling the entire system because it will repartition the flash.

Ideally I want to be able to back up, then set up dual boot, and then restore my G so that everything is intact, and the IDs are the same, so that I don't even need to put in all my account details!

Back in the N900 days, I would backap the whole system partittion (2GB of it!) and reflash it to have everything (including installed applications) restored. It really was a one point backup. Is anything like that possible with Android? From whatI have looked into Titanium Backup, that did not seem to be the case.

Titanium Backup backs up applications and their configuration and data. It does do batches, so you can back up all user apps, or changed apps/configs. And you can bulk restore. I find it's ideal if you're using apps where the author occasionally produces bad releases and you want to roll back. Or you're upgrading your phone and it might go wrong.

Hm, I guess I will have to investigate. But what about the settings on the phone, that needs to be backed up differently?

Or is TWRP a solution? That should be able to do backups od whole partitions, no?

if you signed into Google then some settings will be saved in your google account too, or be sync'd to their services, like chrome bookmarks, contacts, gmail.

it's annoying that gmail doesn't sync your folder settings, so i have to go into the specific account and turn on sync for all the folders whose mail I want to have on the phone all the time.
