kino2 mplayer on 5600: bus error
« on: April 25, 2004, 07:09:36 pm »
I installed kino2 on my 5600 (original 1.21 sharp rom). When I try to run mplayer from a shell prompt, I get a bus error.

I\'ve seen several suggestions that the mplayer from the kino2 distribution is a good one to use, but I guess I\'m not sure if it is 5600 compatable. (At this point, I\'m not really sure what makes things compatable or not.)

The FAQ suggests that a bus error might result from a damaged download. I downloaded the package several times from several different client computers using several different mechanisms. I get a md5sum of
Code: [Select]
cbb5914fc06efd169fba1d602cbfacf8 kino2_0.3_arm.ipk

So, I wondering if this version of mplayer should be able to work on my 5600. If it should any ideas on what to check?

If it shouldn\'t, I guess I have two choices: modify my setup to accomodate it (use a different rom or kernel?) or find a different media player.

What I want to be able to do is encode some portions of my DVDs to watch (and listen to) on my 5600.

I would welcome suggestions for a next step. I\'ve searched the forums and the HOWTOs and the FAQ and I\'m basically confused because when people talk about this or that package it\'s never clear if the package works with the 5600 and the Sharp ROMs.

Have you tried VLC?

Kino2\'s mplayer works well with my SL-5600 that was upgraded to Shapr ROM version 1.32C.

Same here, no problem with the kino2 version of mplayer on my 5600.  I am running Zynergy ROM.   However, I find that when I run it in Qtopia, pausing and unpausing causes it to Seg fault due to an audio device error.  Outside of Qtopia, it works fine.

A bus error could be caused by a bad installation where the executable is incomplete/corrupt. A corrupted download probably would not install.

This version of mplayer works well with my SL-5600 Sharp ROM version 1.0 before the upgrad  and 1.32 after the upgrade:

http://www.self-core.org/~kaoru-k/pub/mpla....91.1-1_arm.ipk

you\'ll need this

http://www.self-core.org/~kaoru-k/pub/libv...1.2.0-1_arm.ipk

and this

http://kimux.org/liza/arc/libiconv_1.8-2_arm.ipk

Remember to copy /usr/local/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf to /home/zaurus/.mplayer (last edited)

thereafter, enjoy :

$ mplayer -framedrop -quiet  xxx.mpg
$ mplayer -framedrop -quiet  -nosound xxx.avi
