Opie Today on Sharp 3.10 ROM question
« on: November 12, 2003, 04:26:16 pm »
Hi,
Got my Z 5500 about a week and a half ago and am generally pretty happy.  I even managed to upgrade from the 2.38 ROM to the 3.10 -- which is much nicer even if you do have to install your own icons to make it look pretty.

Since then I\'ve been adding free bits and pieces of software.

Now... I know the correct answer is \'install Opie instead\'   , but how do I get Opie Today to run on the 3.1 ROM?

The program runs OK, and the plug-ins are installed OK, but when Today checks the datebook and todolist it seems to get nothing back -- I always get no appointments, no tasks (which is regrettably not the case).

I\'ve tried running today from the command line and get the following:

bash-2.05$ today
0x30120 parseVObject start name=VERSION value=2.1 name=REV value=20031110T060728Z name=UID value=0 name=FN
value=Me

...

querying: /home/QtPalmtop//plugins/today/libtodaydatebookplugin.so loading: /home/QtPalmtop//plugins/today/libtodaydatebookplugin.so libtodaydatebookplugin.so querying: /home/QtPalmtop//plugins/today/libtodaytodolistplugin.so loading: /home/QtPalmtop//plugins/today/libtodaytodolistplugin.so libtodaytodolistplugin.so loading tododb could not load returning

This seems to indicate there is some sort of problem accessing the PIM databases, but I\'m not enough of an expert to diagnose the problem any better than that.

I have sudo installed, which the download instructions said I would also need.  I have also tried it with the Suspend-Resume architecture, but have had no luck there either..

Any ideas?

Thanks

David

Sorry, that won\'t work.

The Opie PIM applications do not (and probably never will - until a SharpROM zealot adds that) support Sharps new PIM format.

Oh right... OK, I guess that explains it.  I got confused because of this

http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=860

which is suspend/resume for Sharp 3.10 (I think) coupled with Today.  Although now I look closer, it\'s not clear that this is for Sharp 3.10 -- given that Opie has suspend/resume though, it seemed reasonable to assume it was.

Maybe I\'ll have to take a deep breath and consider installing the Opie ROM.  Pity I haven\'t got around to buying a CF or SD card....

Thanks anyway.

David

You might be able to hack it yourself if you can be bothered. I saw someone post a link to a Japanese page & program which can read in and out xml files from the DTM database (on the www.zaurus.com/dev/board forum). If you could integrate this progam, or part of its code into the opie-today applet (which is fairly simple), then you should be able to create temporary xml files and get it to work.

If you want to do slightly less of a hack job, then you could eliminate the need for the xml files and do everything in code.

Up to you.
