Win XP and C760: Transfer over USB
« on: May 13, 2004, 05:52:28 am »
Hi, I would like to transfer files between my Windows XP computer and my Zaurus C760. I have plugged in the USB cable on both ends...and I have no idea what to do. Windows XP prompted me to automatically install software, but it couldn\'t find any, so now I don\'t know what I need to do.

I tried looking on myzaurus.com for a program or something, but didn\'t find anything. Some googling also turned up nothing, except for mention of a program called Intellisync. Is this what I need? Where should I download it from? Another thing: I\'d rather not install any software just to transfer files, because I\'m only using the Zaurus for a few days. If anybody can tell me of another way to communicate with it, I\'d greatly appreciate it. I have all the Cygwin tools if that helps.

My real goal is to get ahold of the system files (includes and libs) so I can compile some Qtopia apps. I already have the ARM toolchain RPMs installed on a Fedora system, and I think all I need to do is to link with the libs on this PDA and then I\'m set. Am I doing things correctly?

Thanks in advance!

Try setting your Z to use usb-storage/mass storage (you\'ll need a storage card formatted as FAT16 or VFAT - something that Windows can read).

This will work without drivers on WinXP.

BTW the software should have been on a CD which came with your Z.

When I plugged my C760 into an XP machine with the Z set to usb/tcpip (usb network) it prompted me to install the drivers then after all that was done, the Zaurus was visible in network palces with /home/zaurus, /mnt/card and /mnt/cf available as network places (via samba) copying files to from was the same as copying from any other folder. Better than the USB storage option cause I can see all the bits I want to write to at once - although the USB storage is really useful when travelling and I don\'t have the CD with me (or the person who owns the machine doesn\'t want me installing stuff from my own disks)

Is this something I would need to purchase separately?

The unit was issued by my university. Is this software *not* available for download? Or perhaps there\'s some open-source alternative that can talk with the USB? (If not then I will bug Them to give me the CD.)

So, did XP install the drivers from the Zaurus CD?

Yes it will have.

I can\'t find the software on the ZUG downloads. I\'ll post a question and see whether someone can put it up for you (otherwise I\'d bug your uni to get a copy of the CD).

Yep, there are a number of folders (under drivers from memory) one for usb io (serial) one for usb tcp/ip (networking) and one the usb storage drivers - although you don\'t need them with ME onwards. Bug them for the CD it will make life much easier for you. Also overcomes the need to keep the card vfat as samba will translate between filesystems. (also usb tcp/ip seems faster than usb storage to me - but I have not done any tests to prove that either way)
