Hi, I\'m looking to write software that I can use on a Sharp Zaurus Sl-6000L, and I\'m looking for any advice or resources that anyone might be able to provide.
Overall, the idea of the project is to use the Zaurus\' infrared port to do communication across a LAN. I realize that IR comms is slower, shorter range, requires line-of-sight, etc, but security is a major concern. Besides, this isn\'t going to be streaming video or anything. It\'s essentially to be able to use the Zaurus as a remote control for stuff running on a desktop Linux box.
I\'m relatively experienced with C/C++, as well as some Java. I was wondering if it\'s easier to develop for the Zaurus writing C/C++ programs, or if a Java application/applet might better do the job.
I\'m currently playing around with the latest Java development environment (NetBeans IDE 3.6) on a Windows 2k machine, and am content with using either Windows or Linux to do the actual development.
It seems as if a lot of software for the Zaurus comes in a .ipk file (installation package?). Are there programs that can take my C/C++ or Java code and generate an ipk file that i can then install onto my Zaurus? I\'ve been playing around with something called \"JBDeploy\", and was looking at something else called \"JavaBuilder\". However, the latter is commercial software, and I wanted to make sure i was going down the right path before spending money on these applications.
I hope this isn\'t too much for a \"first post\" and I\'m sorry if the questions seems a little vague or nebulous. I\'m just starting out and would greatly appreciate any and all help people can give me.
Also, if this post is in the incorrect forum, please feel free to move it.
Thanks!
