tkc ROM
« on: June 10, 2004, 02:32:56 am »
Installing this ROM has given me more problems than all other ROMS combined.

After downloading the SL-C860 ROM (no instructions given anywhere for the SL-C systems installation so I made educated guesses) I got a \"write failure\" during install that searching the forum recommended I do a NAND restore to the original ROM and then reflash, so I dutifuly downloaded the 80MB original Japanese NAND backup and did a NAND restore (my first one).

tkr then decided it would install, but after bootup all I get is some total mess on the screen (vaguely looking like a miniaturised normal screen) and have to do a soft reset to get the device normal again - of course I get the same problem on every reboot making the ROM useless.

I am very disappointed. I realize the ROM is *FREE* so I really shouldn\'t complain - but I have to say I was looking forward to playing around with this ROM but run up against a brick wall at all stages.

Cheers

Did you format after installing the new rom?

Generally when changing roms you need to format/erase the user area otherewise some oddness occurs. Can\'t remember if format is 3 or 4 on the flash menu - it\'s the other one from what you used to flash

The main problem with th Tkc rom is that proto changed it to need a bunch of ipks from his site that is now MIA - so you can\'t get hancom word, movie player etc anymore - unless Scott has mirrored the ipks on zaurus spy

What happened to proto? He, like DevNet, suddenly vanished and left the rom for the 5x00 in v2 alpha format.
