How do I set up a file association?
« on: June 15, 2004, 10:18:56 pm »
I\'m trying to get swf files associated with QFlashplayer and .nes files associated with ZFceu -- does anyone know how I would go about doing this?  I\'ve been attempting to modify my mime.types file but to no avail...  Now it says instead of application/octect-stream not found it\'ll say application/Zfceu not found (or what not)  any ideas?

add the mimetype into /etc/mine.types, then modify the .desktop file that executes the application you wish to associate it with. Look at mpegplayer.desktop for a good example of how to do it. You will have to restart Qtopia after editing these files

lpotter,

Thanks a bunch -- I had been using hanccomsheet\'s .desktop file as my example -- mediaplayer worked much much better!  So now I have it set up -- all thanks to you!  File association works, unfortunately though zfceu doesn\'t open the rom -- oh well ....  Now that I know how to do this .... I think I\'m going to use a dummy application of somesort and then assign icons to various filetypes like .zip.  Is there anyway to hide an app on the desktop and still have MIME types associated with it?
