Japanese Input
« on: June 29, 2004, 03:17:04 pm »
Hi,

I was wondering if there was anyone on this forum who owns a japanese SL-6000. I recently got an american one, and tried installing japanese input on it (I need Chinese Kanji Handwriting Input), but the IME comes up a bit too small, since I used the files for the A300 (I couldn't find the needed files in the japanese rootfs file on developers.zaurus.co.jp). So I'd be greatful if someone who has a japanese model could supply me with the needed files. Or perhaps it's possible to change a setting to make the files I am using now show up bigger...

Any help would be appreciated.

You won't get any qtopia files from the rootfs available from Sharp cause it says on the download page that qtopia and the sd driver are not included in the rootfs.

Sharp just released an update to the C860, that contains all the qtopia files (and the crim, dictionaries and translation files). You can mount the initrd.bin on a linux machine and extract them - they are designed for 640x480 screen so should display nicely on the 6000 too.

finally got the japanese input files out of the initrd.bin (C860) file and onto the SL-6000, but it seems it's not working, i don't get the extra option next to the 'QT' button so i can't select it. unlike the files i got out of the a300 rom, those did work. the dic files from the c860 are different and a lot larger, apart from that there doesn't seem to be much difference.

Which fiels did you get? The ones in /home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods or the ones in /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/pluigns/inputmethods? The first ones are only symlinks to the second ones, so if you only copied over the first ones you probably didn't get te real files. Also did you make all the symlinks from the libCRIM.so.1.0.0 to libCRIM.so.1.0, libCRIM.so.1 and libCRIM.so? Qtopia on the C760 doesn't like if the last 3 files aren't symlinks - don't know why

I suggest copying /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/plugins/inputmethods/libCRIM/so.1.0.0 (or whatever it's called) to /home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods and then make the symlinks from there. Worked for me with the english handwriting input method

Some of the dictionary fiels are used by the sljisho and the translator program - sorry I can't tell you which ones are used by CRIM

I had the jap input from the a300 working on my sl-6000, all i did was replace the files with the ones from the c860's initrd.bin (in /opt/QtPalmtop/lib and plugins/inputmethods), the symlinks were still in place. so the setup should have been ok. is there a way i can find out which files are needed, perhaps the newer version needs more files than that the a300 version needed. i thought i'd have a look in the logfiles but the zaurus doesn't have any except for wtmp and dmesg...
