tkcPlayer on OZ 3.3.5?
« on: July 05, 2004, 08:17:29 pm »
I've been looking at theKompany's tkcPlayer and, if it is more stable than XMMS (not a hard feat), it looks like a nice MP3 player.

The only thing is it doesn't say on the site what it's compatible with.

Do I need the Konpany's own tkcROM to run their stuff or can I install it onto OpenZaurus 3.3.5? I'd hate to spend $10 only to find it useless.

TIA.

Hi darac

If I recall, it does not, I think I tried when I had a 5500, but if I'm wrong someone will correct me.
Left Linux and Linux PDAs... sorry, got boring.  Switched to Mac.

I've seen posts that others have had trouble using it on OZ.  TheKompany will not support you if you use OZ, so I would save my money untill you know for certain;  their support is poor on the tkcROM - "works for all of us in the office, you must have hacked your Zaurus, so we cannot help you."

I bought 5 tkc apps that never did what they were supposed to do, and I do not use any - wish someone would have warned me before I spent my $$$$$!
Handheld:. Sl-5500 tkcROM 1.0 (defunct) * apps on ext2 Lexar 256 SD
Desktop:. Mandrakelinux 10.2 Cooker * kernel 2.6.11
Both computers run linux, proud to be MS Free

I've been using the New Sharp Media player (which is packaged with Cacko), I'll try to work out how to get it running on OZ and post instructions.

It's rather nice BTW (IMHO ;-))
