If there is a recent thread on this topic, i haven't been able to find it.
I just got my c860 and like the Cacko ROM that the previous owner had installed, but it seems from the change in web page (now just for pdaXrom) and such that this ROM is no longer being worked on.
So... i'm trying to figure out what each of the different ROMs provides, and doesn't. Is there a list somewhere? Does this pdaXrom do everything that the newest Cacko mod of the Sharp ROM do, and if not, why has Cacko been abandoned?
In addition to this question, i was wondering if there's a way to go back to the bare ROM eg erase everything added to the basic ROM setup. There are old PIM categories i don't want from previous owner, plus some flakiness that i think will require a "hard reset" (as i've come to know such an operation).
Thanks for your help and input on this bewildering array of ROM possibilities that former Palm people like me find mind-blowing.
Edit:
To partially answer my own questions, it looks like pdaXrom loses all of the 3rd part apps like Hancom office and Opera, while replacing them with OSS alternatives. I personally can't see any reason for doing that as i am impressed with Hancom spreadsheet, and like Opera. I suppose it's just not legally possible to include them in the new ROM?
I believe pdaXrom uses X instead of .... Qtopia, is that what it's called? While i'm no expert on X, it seems that the screen size we're dealing with is best served by a window manager/widget set customized for palmtops, and X on it might be like the Space Shuttle to the grocery store metaphor. Does anyone know if there are any advantages to X over Qtopia besides insta-compatibility with lots of existing desktop software?
