Terminal software bug
« on: August 02, 2004, 09:53:12 am »
I'm running the default Sharp Rom in Japanese, everything was fine and then I installed the Opie Lib and pics and following that EmbeddedKonsole. EmbeddedKonsole kept entering a "4~" (without the quotes) on every new line whenever I came out of the Konsole by hitting the home button and then back into it even though I did not shut the Konsole down. Also, each time I relaunch the Konsole, the fonts go to super small size and it ignores me previous settings.

So I downloaded qpe-terminal_1.5.0-2_arm.ipk which I take to be, and it looks like, the original default Sharp Terminal and installed it but it's still doing it. Anyone know what's happening or even better how to fix it?

That's normal behaviour. All the hardware keys are just mapped to some of the function keys (Home is F12 for example) and since these keys could be legitimately used by some console apps, Konsole does not filter them out. But the consequence of that is you get some funny control characters appearing on the command line as you describe. It's slightly annoying, but they can be deleted.

As for it forgetting the settings, that sounds like an old version. Try the libopie and konsole ipks from here: http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/sharprom/1.0.3/

Thanks, that's very helpful. I've downloaded the Opie-console from the feed, it looks impressive and has fixed the font problem, if I get problems I'll switch to the Opie-EmbeddedKonsole, I think a lot of people like that one.

Try Qkonsole (sorry lost link but its at ZSI) or EmbeddedKonsole-tw, you still they have much better font selections than the standard embeddedkonsole. Plus EmbededKonsole-tw allows you to choose character encoding.

Qkonsole is great, nicely laid out interface, scroll bars, wide range of styles -- much better, thanks for the tip.
