OZ internet problems
« on: July 31, 2004, 01:09:35 am »
I just installed OZ 3.2 on my SL-5500 and then installed Konqueror browser but when I try to go to a website it says unknown host.  I'm using a wifi cf card and can ping other computers on my network but when I try to ping a website it says host name lookup failure. I looked around on a few forums but i haven't found any help.

First of all see whether you can ping some of these website addresses using their IP addesses. Can you ping your own network using names rather that addresses?

Then look to see whether your DNS server setting is correct - it may be, I don't know the answer to above. Also check your gateway setting.

Thanks for the reply. Now that I check, I cannot ping other computers on my network using their names. When I try to ping a website with their ip, it says that Network is unreachable. Also, I am unfamiliar with Linux and OZ and I'm not quite sure how to check the DNS server or gateway settings. But thanks very much for your help.

The gateway and nameserver can be set in the Opie network settings applet (and they end up in various text files in /etc if you're interested). Select the Connection in question (wlan0??) then click on Configure. Set the First (and second if you know it) DNS and Gateway.

Just copy these settings from any other computer on your network (in Windows: Control Panel > Network Connections, Select the connection in question hit properties, select TCP/IP hit properties again, etc.

OK, I just checked the gateways and DNS and they are correct.  Unfortunately this did not solve my problem.
