BT2000E Drivers For Eld Z ROM?
« on: July 30, 2004, 03:24:33 pm »
Hi all,

Recently purchased the AmbiCom BT card that is linked on the Sharp page.

I'm running an older version of the ROM (2.37) and Linux kernel (2.4.6-rmk1-np2-embedix).  My question is which version of BlueZ should I download?

I tried a couple without success, so wasn't sure if it's my card (don't know if it's the new chipset or not and the the link to the socketforum is dead) or if maybe the reason was due to me running eld versions of ROM and kernel.

So I guess I have a few questions:

A) Which version should I be downloading?
What all exactly do I need to download?  Saw lots of BlueZ files, but not sure if I need them all.  Also saw the most recent thread about downloading sudo and stuff.
C) I've come across several different HOWTOs with regard to the BlueZ, so I'm not 100% sure I may be reading the correct stuff.  I followed the HOWTOs from this site, but that was one of the versions that didn't seem to work.  But maybe I didn't download everything?  I'm thinking possibly I needed to download other things? ie. the utils, rfcomm, rfcommd, etc?

As a side note, I tried the Affix package, but I couldn't even get it to load the module.  :-/  So again, I wasn't sure if it was my own lack of experience or the fact that I'm running eld versions.

Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated.

- Michael

Ok, so I think I've narrowed things down a bit.

I've got the proper BT Card.  I can do a cardctl ident and get the following info back:
**********
Socket 0:
  product info: "AmbiCom,Inc", "BT2000E", "Bluetooth PC/CF Card"
  manfid: 0x022d, 0x2000
  function: 2 (serial)
**********

From everything I've read, this seems to be the card.

However, when I go to install the packages, I get the following no matter which version I install:
**********
modprobe: Can't locate module rfcomm
Can't open RFCOMM control socket: No such file or directory
**********

Which after a bit of digging, indicates that the kernel does not have the ability to load these modules and therefore my rfcomm alias is pointless.  Apparently there are a couple of patches to fix this issue and a stack issue (which I would presume I probably have as well)  :-P

So I'm guessing I need to upgrade and that I'm totally boned?  There's no way possible for me to use my stock Sharp kernel?  If not, which kernel and desktop should I use?  If I have to go through this exercise, I want to get a really good one.  I've yet to have any problems with my current setup and would hate to start having it crash all the time due to a new OS still being kinked out.  ;-)

Any help with these is greatly appreciated.

Try the 2002 packages from here: http://bluez.sourceforge.net/download/zaurus/

There is a readme there too.

tumnus,

Thanks for the info.  I've actually been to this page, but everything I install yields the errors previously mentioned.  :-(  Specifically, everything fails when trying to access the RFCOMM stuff.

Were any of these developed on the Sharp 2.37 ROM?  If so, which and I will try those.  Beyond that, I'm assuming I have to upgrade.  Is this true or am I simply 'missing' something?

Many thannks!

Like I said, try the packages made in 2002. They were built against the kernel in the 2.37 ROM. Do not use the latest packages from there and read the readme, there's a script you need to run to create the rfcomm devices after bootup.

Well, after trying all the various packages from 2002, I can't seem to get a single one to work.

Everything installs and then when I run hciconfig, it claims it can't connect.  The same error message found in the first post from this thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...c=981&hl=bt2000

So what do I do at this point?  I've tried _every_ package out there; I know I have the right card; but nothing seems to work.  It always seems to be when I get to the point of trying to connect to the card.

I've now reset my Z to take it back to day 1 (out of the box - which royally sucks), but still none of this seems to work.

Any further help/ideas?  I'm completely stuck now.  :-(

Oops, I just remembered the driver for that card may not be in the old Blue Z ipks. Keep the 2002 packages installed and search for the bt950 driver that was built for the 2.4.6 Zaurus kernel.

Sorry about that, must be getting old...

Tumnus,

No worries mate.  Since I had to reset everything (old suspend bug when rebooting), I broke down and loaded the new Sharp ROM.  FYI - just testing and the suspend/reboot bug still seems to active in the new ROM as well.  :-(

After loading, I was able to install the latest drivers without a single issue.  :-D

Course, after my latest test, I have to re-install everything again.  *sigh*

Anyway, the driver works great with the Sharp v3 ROM.  Excellent work and thanks for the help!!
