'Dream Config' - Possible?
« on: July 12, 2004, 04:05:41 am »
The SL-6000W is what I am trying to get ahold of.  It is possible some form of bluetooth adapter might have to be settled for, but I would rather not.

So...

Sharp Zaurus SL-6000 (hopefully W, perhaps L)
Sharp Zaurus CF Expansion (CE-JC2)
Jabra BT250 Bluetooth headset  (Link)
Magicstor 4.4GB CF hard drive (Link)
TheKompany VoIP software
Low power Ethernet CF (in expansion) (Link)
Bluetooth folding keyboard... perhaps IR.  Unknown model.  Possibly from Think Outside?

Leaves one SDIO open.  If L series only available, likely to be used for bluetooth adapter.

What really troubles me with this setup is that I have no real idea of how bluetooth works.  I have noticed plenty of bluetooth stuff for the Zaurus, but none of the packages specifically stated they supported products like the Jabra headset.

1) Will that headset work with the Zaurus?  (I would rather avoid using the Z audio jack with a wireless transmitter on it.  This is a big 'would rather avoid')
2)  With the tkPhone (or some other VoIP software) function on the SL-6000 using the Jabra headphone?

Also:

3) Are there any problems with this configuration?
4) Will any bluetooth keyboard work with the Zaurus or is it very model specific?
5) Will any IR keyboard work?

Thanks for putting up with my newbie self for a bit.  Now time for sleep!

There is currently no sdio port on the Z's. There is a thread about this somewhere, and while it may be in fact a sdio port we have no drivers for this...
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

Ah, thanks.  Well, if all else fails, I guess I will use a usb bluetooth device or something.

Mainly what worries me is the headset/bluetooth/tkPhone.  Promise I am going to sleep now. My eyes feel like burning.

No one has got a Bluetooth headset working as a mic and headphone on the Zaurus AFAIK. Technically it is possible, but I think there is some glue missing between the BlueZ drivers and the OSS sound driver.

I seem to have found some applicable bluez headset related information that made it seem as if this had already been done.

For Kernel 2.4.23
For Kernel 2.6.4
Bluez SF.net discussion on headsets and above drivers

Handset support for Bluez

According to text in this, sound is in?

I am unable to test any of this and do not have enough understanding of what it is I am looking at to know if it is applicable in this case.  Perhaps someone else would be able to verify if this works on the Zaurus?  Has anyone yet tried?

Hmm. Doesn't connecting a headset require talking using the headset profile for bluetooth (rather than the SPP)? Does the Zaurus support it?
