Re-install Cacko
« on: September 09, 2004, 03:37:45 pm »
Okay,
I just purchased a 1GB SD card.      I have a few questions now for the group.
1. should I format the card as ext? or the vfat that my other one is. And, which one should I use. I have purused the forum and seen there are several options.

2. I want to re-install cacko, I have the latest - now, can I just copy all my files to the new larger drive? or do I need to start fresh. which is easier?

I would like to just copy, cuz I have Ko/pi going and lots of games, but it is doeable either way.

Since, I am a noob, and I use winxp at home and NT2k for work, I need to synch wth those machines.  any ideas, pointers would be great!

You need to find a way of transferring the files between SD cards, you can't use a Windows PC as Windows will change some of the file names to lower case, which will stop some of the apps from reading the files, although most of the built in apps & Ko/Pi/PA dont use SD storage.

Perhaps the easiest way is to do a Zaurus backup from the old & a restore to the new SD card. Alternative, if you don't have many files to transfer, is to transfer via the internal flash, perhaps copying a directory tree at a time. (Make sure the file copy program is NOT installed on the SD card)

Make sure all your applications are closed before you do anything.
