Can\'t find some install files
« on: February 29, 2004, 07:47:32 am »
I have a  SL5600 ROM 1.21.

For some reason, SOME ipk  files are not seen by the installation.  in particular:
irk-sl5600_0.9.2_arm.ipk
zti85emu_0.73_arm.ipk.

They just don\'t show up in the list. I can see them with file manager, but when I try to install them from there with thr menu option it doesn\'t work either.
Also, some of the packages are provided as tar files. It is unclear to me how to re-package or unpackage those to be seen by the installer. I thought they are gz of tar of gzs of control and data files. gz\'ing the provided tars, such as zsafe_2.1.2_arm.ipk.tar doesn\'t seem to work.
Thanks,

The 2 you list are in fact tar.gz style ipk files.

If it has been named zsafe_2.1.2_arm.ipk.tar (IE has a curious habit of doing this for example), just rename it zsafe_2.1.2_arm.ipk

Your suggestion worked for the zsafe file. It didn\'t work for the irk files or the zti85. Two of the versions of these files downloaded as .ipk - they don\'t show up. The other two down loaded as .tar - the renamed versions don\'t hsow up either.

Thanks for the try. I deleted the copies I had previously - downloaded those which did end with .tar (BTW I am using Mozilla not IE) and renamed them taking off the .tar. I then did a \"copy\" and \"pasted\" using Zaurus File Transfer - and they still don\'t show up.

NOW GET THIS - I decided to redo the operation with IE - and it WORKED.

So some how Mozilla 1.6b has a problem getting CERTAIN files of .ipk type. Most work!

I have a problem getting Mozilla 1.6 (release, not Beta) to download .ipk\'s at all: it always wants to display the files as text -- any hints??

I use Mozilla Firefox.  You right-click, and then save-as.  I don't know why Mozilla sometimes wants to read ipk's to the screen.  There's probably a way to customize this...

I have the same problem as described above about z85emu not showing up in the install application.  I am downloading via IE and will try again... (but this approach sounds fishy to me...)
