OZ freezing
« on: October 02, 2004, 08:22:18 pm »
My OZ 3.5.1 freezes quite often for some reason. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? If I'm lucky enough to have focus in a terminal, I can usually use it to chvt 1 and restart Opie. Then it will continue to work until it freezes again. This suggests it is an issue with either Opie, QPE, or the touchscreen drivers.
I can reproduce the freezing quite predictably by:
1. enable wireless
2. have wireless applet updating the signal line every 0sec
3. wait for wireless applet to die
4. use ?? applet to eject wireless card
5. Z is frozen: no input works, suspend button is ignored, and turning the switch on the bottom to remove battery is also ignored (Z is on until battery is removed)

Setting the updating to 9 sec seems to make the freezing stop (or a lot less often). Perhaps the applet is b0rking something?

Opie-wirelessapplet is broken for some time now and is causing massive resume problems
for many people. Just uninstall it.

Why can a (normally) user-mode application even have the ability to freeze the system? Uninstalling it seems to have helped, but the system still freezes every now and then. I'm wondering if it's an issue w/ the drivers that is accelerated by constant polling (the applet)

Re oz lockups my 5600 locks on trying to mount cf flash, or by coming out of suspend
if my linksys cf wireless card is in.  I think there is something unhealthy in whatever
handles the cf slot.  unfortunately fixing that is waaaaay beyond me. Maybe
the developers are working on it?  Of course I only really use cf to store multimedia...
