No Roms Work
« on: October 27, 2004, 09:33:33 pm »
I cannot get any Roms to work on my 5500.  When I flash to hybrid64-0, I get the dreaded "respawning message", and my z locks, but even after new reflash, I do not get the install script message.  When I flash to hybrid 32-32, I get the penguin in the top right of the screen on startup, a blinking cursor for about 10 seconds, and then my z locks.  When I flash to openzaurus 64-0 with gpe, I get the GPE splash, and then my z locks.

I have searched through everything, but I cannot find anything that applies to this problem on the 5500.  Methods for other models do not work.

Please help.

I cannot even get the Sharp ROM back.  Lights come on when I reflash, but only momentarily, and back to the beginning.

I'll be happy at this point with any ROM that works.

Did you wait for ~5 minutes when the GPE splash is shown ?

Personally I don't think it is a good idea to show the splash that early in the ( first ) boot process, but it wasn't my call. While it may feel good (hiding the user from the low level details), there's no processing notification and that is certainly not a good thing.

Maybe someone wants to add that to the splash? Patches appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help.

I tried being patient, but after fifteen minutes, still nothing but splash.  The screen goes to half blank-half splash, and then I have to do a soft reset to get any response.

I can get the bootstrap to work.  Is there anything I can check to see what might be going wrong?
