NAND Restore from CF (SL-C860)
« on: January 01, 2004, 07:23:43 am »
With the \"Service Menu\" I made a NAND backup file to CF \"SYSTC860.DBK\".
At the end of this procedure (after approximately 13 minutes the green bar at the bottom of the screen stopped and at the end of the line \"Backup ...\"  - \"OK\" appeared. I left the screen by pressing \"Cancel\" and then left the \"Service Menu\" selecting \"Extra Menu\" and \"Reset\"
I understand that this was completed correctly. Am I right?

Then I wanted to check if I see the file on CF. I selected  \"NAND Flash Restore\" in the \"Service Menu\". I saw:
     file:SYSY860.DBK
     Execute restore?
I pressed \"Cancel\" to leave the procedure? and next to leave the \"Service Menu\" I selected \"Extra Menu\" and \"Reset\".
My questions are:
1) Can I now be absolutely sure I am save with backup file?
2) What will happen when I press \"OK\"?
3) Do I need to do additional procedures after restoring or after reset I will have EXACTLY the same system I backed up? (without necessity of doing any modifications after restart)

1) No, the NAND flash restore pregram just looks for a file called SYSTC860.DBK, if the file is corrupt or not complete then the backup will fail. However my NAND backup for C860 is 133Mb if yours is about the same then you are most probably fine -especially as the backup process gave you an OK. If you have problems restoring the NAND try reformatting your CF card and recopying the NAND file - sometimes the file system can have errors that will cause the restore process to fail - just use another card or reformat that card and try again.

2) The current NAND will be overwritten by the backup NAND - takes about 5 - 10 mins depending on the speed of your card. When finished your system will be exactly the same as when you made the backup - except for any programs you had on SD or CF cards of course

3) No. Just reboot and everything will be just as when you backed up.

Exactly the same size as my backups.

I have tried three roms so far, and have taken a nand backup of all of them so I can simply go back to the best when I have made my choice.

The only way you are going to be absolutely sure is to try and restore it.
Commonly known as Catch 22, chicken and egg etc.

Size of backup on C760 & C860 as measured by Win Xp Pro file manager is 138,543,120 bytes
