Couple Of Elementary Question Before Flashing

hi,
  since it's the first time I am flashing C1000 with OZ 3.5.3, couple of really simple question, sorry if they are repetitive:
1) Does the SD card need to be ext2 formatted, or will FAT32 be OK too?
2) in the flashing instructions on the wordpress pages, initrd.bin is mentioned....is that the opie....img file that needs to be renamed or is it something/somewhere else? where would I be able to fetch it if that is the case and where is the initrd.bin I need?
3) can I use the latest zImage file from the upgrades or do I need the original, april 28 zImage?

First, welcome to the OZ users community.

1) Prefer a cf card for falshing. Datas are encrypted on SD cards, and i'm not sure it will  work with a sd,but this point needs confirmation. Then your card must be FAT formated, not FAT32. (Fat16 is the default format, it is good too.)

2) opie-image-akita-20050427214434.rootfs.img = initrd.bin
zImage-akita-20050427214434.bin = zImage.bin
updater.sh = updater.sh

3) Just flash with the files listed here

Assuming it's the same as the other machines, for flashing it has to be fat formatted (fat16 too I think). For everything but the 5500/5000D, an SD card or a CF can be used.

Yes, if you want to use Opie, then rename the opie..img one, if you want gpe rename the gpe one, etc. (not sure if this image is available for you yet though).

Use the latest one from the upgrades feed - make sure you use the right one (right machine name) and rename it correctly.

P.S. Check the md5sums of the files too (might not be possible for the upgrades kernel, but this is relatively small, it's normally the larger files which can become corrupted when downloading).

thanks...I formatted the SD on ext2, is there a quick way of formatting it back to FAT16 via the terminal in the zaurus?

Change the instruction setting the partition type from 83 to 6 (as in the instructions above for the Cf card).

Also use mkfs.msdos rather than mkfs.ext2

You may need to grab the fdisk ipk from killefiz.
