Zaurus 6000l & Wifi Usrobotics
« on: December 23, 2004, 08:02:55 am »
Hi at all, i'm a newby in Zaurus & in this list. I've just received a new 6000L. and I'm just in trouble with wifi conf.
I've USRobotics pcmcia card 5410, router 5450, adsl 9160.
I can't perform my configuration on Zaurus. When i try to use the infrastructure mode the connection go down immediately.
I use this conf:
ESSID: USR5450 (or USR9160)
TCPIP: 192.168.1.10
mask: 255.255.255.0
gw: 192.168.1.22
Mode Infrastructure
The iwconfig command for wlan0 it's ok
When I try to connect it will be down immediately.
In ad-hoc mode I can't, off course, ping anything.
There are incompatibility in the chipset (prism II and acx110)?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

dixie,

You didn't include the config of the Access Point you are trying to connect to,  I assume that you have verified the Z settings against the AP settings.  Why did you try the different ESSID's? What is the AP ESSID?  Also 192.168.1.22 seems odd as a default gateway address, not invalid, just usually see 1.1 or 1.254, etc.

Some more questions, have you tried setting the ESSID to Non-Specific or "ANY" ?  Is there any encryption running on the AP, WEP, WPA etc?  Are there any restrictions on which MAC addresses can connect set on the AP?  Is the AP set to accept a specific speed connection, i.e., greater than 11Mbps, or 802.11g?  Can you set the Z to dhcp and try pulling an address from the AP?  Can you connect to the AP from another system, if so what are it's settings?  Is there any firewalling associated with the AP? You say you checked the iwconfig wlan0 settings, I assume you mean ifconfig, what are the DNS Settings there, none are included in your post, are they valid?

Just a few basic questions, I hope they help you find the answer to your problem.  I doubt that the issue is related to and incompatability between the chips.  Good luck!

I've just tried another ESSID (also ANY). 192.168.1.22 is a default gw (in office I've a router adsl with this ip address and, however, at home I want use the same address).

Isn't any encription or MAC addr. restritions and the AP accept any speed connection (auto).
I connect, without problem, the same AP with the notebook under Debian & WinXP. Isn't any firewall.
I've tried to configure manually the resolv.conf, hosts, HOSTNAME file but...without success.....

I'm afraid...

RESOLVED!!!
I'm ..... (NO COMMENT).
I havn't charged the...modules (arghhh... ten years on linux and i'm so stupid :-) )

Now works all very fine (not for mysql because the version is a little bit old and not completely compatible with my db on the server - 4.1).

Tks a lot.
