Stylus for 6000

Forgive me if there is already a 6000 stylus replacement topic.

I am using the Palm t spring-loaded stylus for the 5600 as recommended here.  It is great for the 5600 but doesn\'t work for the 6000.

So I, and I expect some of you are searching for alternative stylii to replace the relatively lame original.

I got one tip, I think from another board, to try the saitek universal stylus.  It is not made anymore and is hard to locate.  I havn\'t tried one yet.

It has a nice feel when using since the tip gives just a little under pressure.  And it is fat enough that it fits snug into the 6000 hole.  The only drawback is that it sticks out of the top for about .5 in.  For some, this may be a plus since it is much easier to grab and pull out of the Z.

What about filing it down and making the .5 inches like 1/8 of an inch...is that possible?

I think that could easily be done.  You could chop off the top right down so that it was flush with the top of the 6k.  And the stylus would still have a ridged strip in the 6k\'s \"little-side-slot\" so that you could get it out with your thumbnail.  But it sits in there more tightly than the original stylus and is thus more difficult to pull out that way.  My own preference is to leave it protruding out the top so as I have something to grab.  I don\'t like the original for that same reason even though it is relatively easy to get out.  It is still awkward.  I wish the old Palm T spring-action worked with the 6k like it does with the 5600.  I wish  someone would make one like it for the 6k, so instead of having to dig the stylus out of the hole, you could just push and release and it would pop up giving you something to grab.  Until that happens, I think I prefer having it protrude so I can grab it.  Depending on what kind of case(s) I end up using, the protrusion may not be a nuisance.  We\'ll see.

Just Palm V, m500, and Visor.

Do any of those three fit in the 6K?

Wouldn't just stuffing something down the stylus hole to shorten it a bit allow you to use the (fantastic) spring loaded tungsten-t stylus?

Anything new in this arena guys?  (Yet another) new 6000L owner here...and I'd like to have a couple extras on hand.  Even if it is the "boring" stock one.

Will that one work OK?  The comments and specs don't indicate if it will or will not.  (Typical of the 6000..the "forgotten" personal mobile tool since it was made for corporations)

I don't think it will work with the 6000L.  The 6000L has a longer and fatter stylus then the 5x00 models.  If you try to put a 5x00 stylus into a 6000 the stylus will fall out.

When I got my 5600, there were posts from people who lost or broke their original stylus.   I bought a 3-pack of generics and keep one in the holder in my leather pda case.  I use it all of the time instead of the one that came with the Zaurus.  I use the original one only when I don't have the generic at hand.  At a techie user group conference, a sales rep gave me a plastic clip that slips on the edge of a mouse pad and is designed to hold the mouse cord.  I  found that the opening is just the right size to hold a stylus so I keep one generic in there next to my Z in it's docking station.

So to summarize this post:

If you want a replacement stylus: you are hosed.

If you want to use any random stylus for any device, obviously it will work, but be prepared to carry it elsewhere than the "stock" built-in holder on the device.

Doh...oh well!  Perhaps I should try option 3 - buy another 6000L so I have a backup Stylus.  Heh.

I bought some generic Palm styli for use with my SL 5500 over a year ago.  They also work in my new SL 6000.  The cheap plastic stylus that came with the SL 6000 will fit in the silo of the SL 5500 but it is about 1/4 inch too long.  I seem to remember a post on wraping one layer of tape around the barrel of a stylus to make it stay in the silo by friction, if this is a problem.  I think the Palm styli were for a Tungsten T but I can't remember.  A search on this board for SL 5500 styli would tell you definitily.

As an update, I just bought some new Palm styli.  I got a three pack that fits Tungsten T5, E and Zire 72 with different top pieces.  The styli are too small to stay in the SL 5500 and SL 6000 silos, but can be built up with tape to fit snug.   I use clear mail tape.  The Tungston T5 top on the stylus fits in the SL 6000, but with the plastic flip cover on the Zaurus, it is difficult to remove the stylus from the silo.  The Zire 72 top on the stylus fits in the SL 5500.  I hope this helps.

Googling around to find information on the SL-6000L graphic chip I run into a posting in another forum mentioning the "saitek luminous stylus". They sell it at Compusa and who posted the information said that it fits in the SL-6000L silo.

Haven't tried it, but I may give it a shot.

I purchased a PDA Panache stylus for the Palm III and have been happy with it. It fits my SL6k nice and snug and is pretty easy to pull out, at least if you don't use the screen cover. My favorite palm stylus has long been a pilot pentopia (spring loaded tip, pen, reset pin).  For Xmas I received a pentopia chameleon one universal stylus.  Details and pictures are here:

It lacks the spring loaded tip and reset pin, although the latter isn't needed for the 6k.  It is about a half-tip shorter than the original 6k stylus but fits securely in the 6k slot and isn't bothered by the screen protector being in place.  It is also a bit thinner than the stock 6k stylus, but still fits securely in the slot due to the little spring loaded pins near the top of the stylus.  Not quite as nice as my palm stylus, but a lot nicer than the stock 6k stylus.
