okay, i am sorry, no kernel update is needed. you have to
download the kernel sources from the japanese site, extract
the sources for the tun device and to compile it. maybe
i will try it.

I also need a working VPN client, as my corporate wireless lan is secured through a VPN concentrator.

I have seen links to a vpnc package, but could not get it to install correctly.  I also found OpenVPN, which I did get installed, but configuration on it reads like either cuneiform or klingon, I haven't decided which.

If anyone has any precompiled binaries or "vpn the quick way" tips I know I'd appreciate it immensely.  When it comes to video playback, emulators, etc I'm content to fiddle with things until it works, but connectivity is a bit touchier.

I just finished going through all this myself. Here's the walkthrough I used, which worked fine. The tun.o and ipsec.o on that page worked for me, though the binaries didn't.

Here's my binaries, if you want to try your luck with them:

http://www.softcom.net/users/nye/knormal/vpnc-connect
http://www.softcom.net/users/nye/knormal/vpnc-disconnect

Ok, using your binaries, the tun.o and ipsec.o from the walkthrough page you provided, I managed to make some headway.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't work.

On the up side, the binaries seem to work.  No complaints or abnormal execution.

Initially it complained that I had an authentication error in the group credentials, but that turned out to be bad info from one of my network admins.

I have my personal username, the ip of the concentrator, the group ID, and the group secret declared in the /etc/vpnc.conf file.

I run vpnc and it prompts me for my password, as it should.  I put it in (and have confirmed said username and password on the vpn concentrator using a laptop wireless connection) and then the vpnc app hangs.  It goes to a newline, and then sits indefinately.

The same occurs if I use the vpn-connect script rather than just directly executing the program (I realize that if directly executed the routing wouldn't work right, I was just doing that to see if it might be the script hanging, not vpnc)

Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks!
