Collie Oz-opie 3.5.4 Issues
« on: March 21, 2006, 06:49:20 pm »
Hi,
I just installed OZ 3.5.4 Opie image on my 5500 and liked it very much.
I found a couple of issues tough:

1) I attached a SanDisk 802.11b Low power card, and while it is recognized and I can configure it with the network tool, I have serious stability issues with my home WiFi connection using a 128bit WEP encription. The card connects but loses the link after a short period (I can barely update the feed list!) and I have to extract it, suspend and resume and reinsert it to have the connection back for a short while
2) My SD card is recognized and I can use it, but it is not shown in the card applet in the panel
3) Apparently the automatic time update is a bit erratic as it seems not to consider the timezone and sometimes it completely changes the time
4) Sometimes it freezes, especially with the CF card inserted

I hope this issues can be easily solved because I like the new rom a lot! :-)

PS: speaking of small old bugs never corrected, apparently the console can still not be closed using the exit command, as in the good old 3.1 times! ;-)

Hi, I've got collie as well, happy to have new OZ 3.5.4 (congrats!) and agree that there are some problems as mentioned by amdonati, namely:

- SD card not shown in tray although working
- freezes quite often (my most often used application is calendar, I switch the Zaurus on in order to put in new appointment, it detects CF and often freezes at this point or when I try to suspend it, so that I have to move the button in the back to "replace battery" and restart..., of course date and time restes to 13th March)

haven't been brave enough to try 3.5.4 yet (on Hentges 3.5.3 atm), had a similar problem with my CF card in an older version though.  Resolved it by making the os eject the card when going into suspend mode rather than suspending the card.  Can't remember the exact location of the script right now, but I'm sure one of the OZ gurus can tell you where.
As I recall, it only occurred with certain cards (mine is a 256Mb Toshiba badged as Memorex).

1. Strangely enough it now after some days of usung seems to be a rule that if a CF card is inserted and after resuming I wait until all processes of mounting etc finish - it works fine. So that's just a bit annoying that I have to wait those few seconds before being able to access my datebook for example. But when I try to resume collie without the CF card - it freezes until reboot...

2. Any ideas how to make an SD card visible in the tray?

3. How to avoid activating cards and deactivating after every suspend-resume?

Best!

Hi,

My collie SL5000 has been gathering dust for some time. Every time I try to get it working there is something fundamental in its failure.  (Sharp OZ - anything)

Anyway, with the release of OZ3.5.4 I decided to give it another go using opie

Flash Boot:
- DHCP using a D-Link D650 does not work, I have to give it an address manually
- Package manager fails with segfault on first run after each boot
- DE650 seems to go to sleep and break ssh sessions
- Otherwise OK, except for the fact that a 5000 is almost useless as it does not have enough memory to load any applications
- I tried scp to send the .bin image to the SD and found that it got gradually slower until it stopped, there appears to be an interaction between SD and CF.  Starts as 400Kbyte/s and drops to 15 before quitting altogether.  Never seen that with past images.
- Had to remove user parameter from fstab for mmcda1 or SD won't mount

Boot via altboot using distribution ext2 images on SD
- Can't run package manager - it just hangs, I notice that there is nearly no network traffic when obtaining package list.

Build own .bin from distribution .tgz image and use altboot to load as bin
- No colour graphics, no picture, no icons.
- Reboot, better this time, but still PM hangs

Run SD in file structure rootfs mode from distribution .tgz
-First attempt failed after the pivot (problem with insmod), re-formatted sd (used mkfs.ext2 rather than mke2fs - no idea if that made any differece) now I still get the PM problem anyway

Oh well.... Ahy Clues?

Or, perhaps it looks like I'll have to go back at cardfs and all the problems with packages that it causes (until I find I've wasted more time and once again put the thing on the top shelf to gather yet more dust)
Perhaps I'll have a go at building my own distribution and loose some of the fud from the distribution

Got it working with SD, seems the problem with PM was the .nl mirror of the openembedded feeds.  PM's handling of timeouts is useless.

Changed the feed to .de and now it works

Now I have to see if I can make it into a useful tool
