Zaurus And Sprint Pcs

Hey all,

Looking to buy my 3rd PDA. I have had a Ipaq and a Jornada die on me. Not going the pocket pc route anymore.  I have been a full time linux user for almost 6 years now so am very familir with it and that has pulled me to the Zaurus. Have not been able to afford one however before.  I am now looking at the SL5600 as the price seems to be okay now for me.  I have a few questions that maybe someone could answer for me.  

1) Has anyone sucessfully got the Sprint PCS Vision to work through the zaurus. Using the familiar #777 connection to connect to sprints vision. I see there is this:

Will that let me connect my phone then use ppp to connect as I do on my desktop?
I am not too familiar with the hardware.

2) What is the deal with the bug in the pxa250? Is this going to hinder my performance if I buy a device that has this issue? Do the roms out there fix the problem or would I be better off trying to find one without this issue.

3) What kind of space requirments does xfree86 need?

Any help would be much appreciated!

With C3000, you don't need to have ratoc CF card, and also device driver (acm.o) is pre-installed.

Thanks for the reply. Being the 5600, (or if i an find a cheap 6000 which also is usb host) a cf usb host card would do the trick though right?

I don't know if 6000 has acm.o pre-installed or not.  Hope some 6000 users shed some light.  If not, probably you have to compile by yourself.

worked on my 6k, acm.o is precompiled in the stock rom. see my reply in the 3000 forum throught the above link provided by dreamtheatre.

this question is not related to z. But does Vision plan already include the old terminology "wireless web" by default? You don't get additionally charged to use your z with your sprintPCS vision phone? All the miniutes used with z counted as regular  calling minutes in your plan?

I just can't find enough information on SprintPCS' website. That #777 number DreamTheatre called sounds like Vision Plan includes the data transfer in it. Is this method an official way to take advantage of SprintPCS vision. I talked to a sprint CSR tonight, she said sprint don't have any data plan except those PCMCIA modem cards.  Maybe she's dumb?

I currently use my old Samsung A460 +wireless web ($5/month) as my solution. I called my school free isp dial-up number xxx-xxx-xxxx to make the connection. At first I thought this would be just normal calling since I dialed an usual US number. However, it cost me over $100 to know that I have to add the wireless web package to avoid the additional charge onto the plan. For some reason SpringtPCS knows I'm using the internet connection.
 
I can't decide wether I should upgrade to vision or not. The ability of using my sprint phone with my z without extra charge is the key. I'm not familiar about Vision plan. How fast is it? Howe does it charge you if using it with z? Somebody please help me out

The "Wireless Web" refers to the old 2G technology. Vision is the newer 3G service.  It does not count towards your minutes at all. However, it does state in the user agreement that using it this way is against their policy.  The risk is up to you whether you want to go against it or not. They could charge you 1cent for every K you use though. You have to have a vision enabled phone to be able to use the #777 in the way we're speaking of.  

Now, so this works fine on a 6000. But how about on a 5600 with a host USB cf card?

I heard you can take advantage of the 1xRTT (128+kbp) network by using T608 from Sprint? How do they charge you in this matter? I didn't find the info. from SprintPCS website, I suspect this is also not officially supported, am i right or not? And does the bluetooth connection between z (say 6k) and T608 work?

Sprint is not offering Sony Ericson T608 anymore, is it? How about their current BT phone offer : LG PM-325? Anybody got it connected with Z thru BT successfully? Can we also use the 1xRTT network on LG PM-325 as that with T608?

as a side note - I use my Z (C750) and dial out using the air cable BT module thru my T68 phone (I am on T-Mobile) and I diont get charged extra any way - since I am only using up my regular minutes when I dial-up thru the phone.

The T68 is a BT enable phone. So I was surprised that Sprint charges extra even for a normal dial-up connection theu their service when they detect that its a internet connection.  That god T-mobile doesnt do that (or has not  wised-up to that).

That's just what I thought as I knew my roomate used his T-mobile dial-up without extra charge. However, it cost me hard-earned cash to prove it's not the case with sprint.  No love with sprintpcs at all. I'll switch to GSM network (seems more BT phone models) eventually.
