Any Status On Cacko Rom For C1000 ?
« on: April 28, 2005, 02:41:58 pm »
Not to be too demanding or pushy, but is there any ETA on when the Cacko ROM for C1000 might become possible ?

I have been follwing the C3000 thread and see that C3000 Cacko ROM is already in BETA and apart from the HDD factor the ROM for the C1000 is going to be nearly the same, so can we be expecting a Cacko 1000 soon .

:-)

Actually I should point out that Maslovsky puts a lot of effort into making sure that Cacko doesn't bloat the Zaurus. We have a little more luxury in terms of space on the SL-C3000 and don't want to slow the HDD access down any further by using squashfs etc. for the system storage.

I'm sharing the ROM build system with Anton so hopefully that will help with the Qtopia stuff but he's going to want to spend some time producing the squashfs, initrd, root, home and sorting out a flashing process... The flashing process requires some careful testing on new devices and I had the luxury of having a Sharp ROM updater.sh to pull to bits for the SL-C3000 because Sharp released an upgrade. Anton doesn't have that luxury so he's going to have to be extra careful with his 1K during this particular testing.

Also my release is aiming at a cefrnr release (Ask a guitarist if you don't know what that means).. awaiting Anton's final SL-C1000 ROM and then we shall try to get the ROMs into Sync and produce a maintenance system that can build a 1K and 3K build (cool stuff huh?)... Anton may not want to go with just cefrnr, he may want to produce something that is particularly 'polished' with a lot of Kernel modifications... I don't know but the best thing would be to let him have a decent crack at it.

The 3K was launched around December last year and didn't get any interest in modding because it was a new device and I think people were a little wary of hacking the unit. I only purchased one once some of the basic recovery questions had been answered and Sharp had produced a ROM. I got my 3K about a month and a half ago and have spent approximately a month (spare time) of that time producing the ROM... I have to say I was particularly lucky in having some free time reserved because I was told NOT to take on any projects at work pending a big bid arriving (which was delayed for a few weeks). Anton may be quite busy and I wouldn't pressure him too much.

Just wait for the results and I'm sure they will be worth it. I'll help in any way Anton wants and I can be of use.

Regards,

- Andy

Thanks Andy for helping me out here

There is not ETA for the C1000 ROM since there is quite a lot of work needed. In particular I'm planning to work on the kernel first - there are some patches that I want to inccorporate into 1.23 kernel. Then ROM itself, then I need to update kino2 to make sure it gets the most from  the latest mplayer from atty.jp, etc.

One thing you can be sure of - there WILL be Cacko ROM for C1000, simply because I have that Zaurus and will be using it myself
