Code: [Select]
root@spitz:~# modprobe usb_ohci_pxa27x
Using /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/usb/usb_ohci_pxa27x.o
insmod: init_module: usb_ohci_pxa27x: Operation not permitted
modprobe: failed to load module usb_ohci_pxa27x
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=83169\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

dmesg /should/ give you a better error message in this case. As per the insmod man page:

Quote
Only  the  most  general of error messages are reported: as the work of trying to link the module is now done inside the kernel, the dmesg usually gives more information about errors.

rmmod all of the usb related modules first - for example the usbdnet and net_fd ones, which must conflict with this host driver.

Already tried that

dmesg shows nothing in regards to usb_ohci

Soooo...funny story I gots for ya!

I flashed to the Cacko 1.23 beta1 yesterday evening with hopes that I could get USB host working with that ROM. It didn't (exact same issues as before). At this point I say to myself "No one else seems to be having these issues; perhaps the hardware is defective". So I went out and bought one of those Gold-X cables with the various interchangeable connectors to test with.

And it works!! I don't know wether to be ecstatic, or extremely pissed that I wasted so much time and effort before

I was using a Mini-A to Female-A adapter peice from a GE USB cable set I picked at Target a few weeks ago. I remember thinking at the time that it was the perfect adapter, as there was no cable to fuss with. I cannot see any reason why it does not work, though, unless the wiring is defective. Unfortunately there was no way for me to test it otherwise, and I never thought to make sure it worked with the original Sharp ROM before I dumped it for OZ

For future reference:
usb_ohci_pxa27x is only loaded when a USB device or hub is connected, and is unloaded when the device or hub is disconnected. This makes absolute sense to me now, but I wish I had known it before. It would have led me to the defective hardware conclusion much earlier
EDIT:Ok, so it only works this way in the Cacko ROM. However, in any case usb_ohci_pxa27x cannot be loaded unless a USB device or hub is connected.

I will be flashing back to OZ later to test the USB host functionality, and will report the results in this thread.

Thanks to all of those who tried to help earlier (especially lardman)!
