What Do You Do With An Unreliable Zaurus...
« on: June 30, 2005, 03:35:35 pm »
More than 2 months ago, my SL-C860 croaked.  It could not be booted at all and showed all the symptoms of the blinking light of doom.  Sent it back to the Vendor (Dynamism).  They took their own bloody sweet time diagnosing and sending it back.  I spoke to their tech, and he thinks that it MAY be an intermittent fault, but he was able to run it for a long period of time without problems.  Now, having been without the Z for weeks, I have already bought a replacement PDA.  (Don't ask what I bought.  No flame-wars needed here.)  The question becomes: What do I do with the Z?  I've spent money on it, and Dynamism isn't going to replace it with a pristine unit since they can 'get it running just fine'.  However, I can't really use it day-to-day, since there's no telling when it'll croak again.  It seems a shame to throw it in a box and forget about it.  So.  Suggestions please?  (Be nice.)

tedst it for a bit, and have a good scientific analysis of its reliabilty. If it seems reliable, use it. if it doesn't, then you have documentation for dynamism.

Well...  that's sort of the problem.  I already bought a replacement, and, if I'm not really using it, it's sort of hard to test it.  I probably will re-install Cacko Lite on it, but it won't become my carry PDA again.  That's why I'm looking at alternatives.  The donation idea sounds good.  The question is: Can I write it off on my taxes?  I'm a generous fellow, but not $700 generous.

IF you still have warranty coverage I would test it thoroughly and if it fails again send it back and PUSH for a replacement.

Nothing else makes any sense to me, because if you are going to donate something it might as well work!
