Ko/pi Does Not Start Until I Reboot
« on: July 06, 2005, 04:07:07 am »
Hello,

I have the latest version of KDEPIM/PI installed on my SL-C3000. Sometimes KO/PI refuses to come up when tapping the icon or hitting the assigned "calendar" key. When starting it on the console I get a small message "Illegal Instruction" and it returns to the command prompt.

Since KO/PI is configured for fastload, I cannot entirely terminate it and restart it again (or can I? How?), so I have to reboot. After a reboot, it works flawlessly for some time.
I don't know what triggers it not to start anymore.

Has anyone seen this before? zautrix and I have been discussing it already and Zautrix assumed a badly flashed ROM. But I have no problems at all with other applicaitons. So I hoped somebody in this forum might have an idea.

It happens with all versions from 2.1.5 up to 2.1.12 of KO/PI.

Any ideas?

Thank you
daniel

I don't have a real idea.
Would it be an option to re-flash your Z with a bigger partition so flash errors can be compensated for?
You can get kopi out of memory by de-selecting the fast-load option in the shortcut, does that help? (Can you start kopi OK when you cold-start it, basically?)

I really do not want to re-flash. :-] I am glad that i have a well working and well documented setup now, which took me many hours to create. Once I have a good backup solution which allows fast and easy recovery of the entire software setup, I may consider reflashing.

I have never tried that yet. I actually need it fastloaded, because when I have to use the calendar then it must be there instantly.
This "illegal instruction" stuff happens so rarely now and I don't know how to trigger it. So I'll robably not try to put kopi out of fastload, until I know how to trigger that failure.

Thanks for your ideas anyway!

What I meant was that you can restart kopi completely by de-selecting fast load, pressing OK, then wait a few seconds and fast-loading it again.
If you can post the exact message it gives you, it may help as well.

Ah, okay. I thought a QTopia restart was necessary in order to "confirm" the fastload change.

Will try that the next time I get the error.

Thank you!
