Looks like Softmaker is trying a new sales outlet for Textmaker by going through theKompany. Plus theKompany is selling it for less than Softmaker's website.

I've got TextMaker for the Zaurus and overall it is the best choice if you need a word processor. It is sometimes slow to render text when typing fast in large documents. I even think it is better than abiword for the zaurus -- although TextMaker isn't a choice on a X11-based rom. I even asked SoftMaker to compile their X11 version for arm processors. This was the response (which I don't agree with for a straight compile):

Quote
as you are the only customer (so far) needing this version so it is very hard
to maintain another port of the software. In short: Currently we don't want to
have another port which has to be maintained, especially not for a single
person (you pay US$50.00 and we have to spend about US$300.00 a month to
maintain the port ;-) ).

I even purchased TextMaker for the desktop, which was a mistake. TextMaker botches complex MSWord formatting and ballooned the file size when some types of images were embedded. All around Open Office is a better word processor on the desktop. The lesson I learned is that just because you buy something, it doesn't mean it is better than open source alternatives.

As I've grown older I've used wordprocessors less and text editors (via some brand of structured text) more. The simplicity and portability of plain text can't be beat.
