How To Install Software, In Sharprom?
« on: July 18, 2005, 03:14:43 am »
I have SL-5500 Zaurus.

How to install software in Sharp ROM from Command Line?
Some packages asks: ipkg went something wrong, when I am installing it on SD card, but installs OK in Ram...

In Sharp ROM i have only 32Mb FreeRAM and it used for some console apps, libs.

Is it really?

ipkg.conf

src Zug http://www.zaurususergroup.org/feed/
dest root /
#dest sd /mnt/card (if I use this path, programms installs to root (i mean /mnt/card)
dest tmpinst /home/tmp/ipkg/inst

apps, that installs from package manaher, uses path:
/mnt/card/QtPalmtop/

What should I do?

Sorry for my poor English...

- I installed things to RAM on my SL-5500, then copied and symlinked them to SD.  Nethack was the only thing that ever complianed about this treatment.  I had over 40MB of software and support libraries on the SD card, symlinked in this fashion, with about 12MB free in RAM.  8 MB for a swap file and 4 MB for general-purpose stuff like Opera's cache.
- If this makes sense ... excellent!
- If it does not make sense, learn more about Linux, particularly the "ln" command, which does symlinking, and the "cp" command, which copies files, and the "rm" command, which erases files.  Be VERY careful with this last one!  Linux has NO undo capability.
- You may also look into "tar", which I routinely use to back up directory trees prior to any serious re-organization.
- Hope this helps...

you can force ipkg to install to a specified destination by using the -d option.

I.e.

ipkg -d /mnt/card install somepackage.ipk

will install somepackage on sd.
So far, this method never failed for me. (admittedly, I nevr tried to install nethack)

hope this too might help.
