Problems With Sandisk Wifi Card
« on: July 19, 2005, 01:25:35 am »
Hi, all...

I'm very new to Linux, and especially new to OZ (OpenZaurus). My bro bought a Zaurus 5500, and got a SanDisk DirectConnect WiFi card w/ 128MB Memory. I'd found a tutorial on how to get it to run on OZ 3.5.3. Learned enough Linux to unpack the Tar Balls, move the files to the various directories, copied his config script, and give it permissions : )

However... Each time I insert the WiFi card into the Zaurus, parallel diagonal lines cover the screen. Kinda neat to look at, but not when I'm trying to access our network : )

Has anyone come across this problem? Is the WiFi card defective? When I take it out, I see the popup menu that says it detected the card... then another one that says it's been ejected, so apparently the OS is recognizing it... I'm using OZ 3.5.3 with the newest version of Opie.

Since I'm here...

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial on how to connect it via USB to a WinXP computer?

Thanks for your help...

Are you sure you have

* prism3-support installed,
* flashed the "real" 3.5.3 kernel,
* not manipulated /etc/pcmcia/hostap.conf by hand

?

prism3-support? I'm not sure... I flashed the Zaurus with the files I listed above (got them from the OpenZaurus web site. I believe it's the 32/32 build), and once I re-booted, I inserted the WiFi card. That's the first time I got the diagonal lines, and that was on a fresh flash. After that, I followed [a href=\"http://http://www.bentzon.net/acb/sandisk.html]
this [/url]tutorial, hoping that if I'd installed the drivers, whatever was making the screen do that would behave itself. I dont' believe I modified hostap.conf at all... I did modify a config table, but that was to remove a line for "atp" so that I could get the Zaurus to suspend properly. And this was after I got the diagonal lines as well...

Thanks for replying soo quickly...

On collie models, prism3-support is not preinstalled. Be sure to have it installed. The tutorial is irrelevant on OpenZaurus 3.5.3. Please reverse the steps from it - best do a complete reinstall - install prism3-support, and reinsert your card.

I have this card and I have the wifi working, is their anyway to access the 128mb on the card as well, or even in an either or situation?  I've poked around with some things but not been able to get anything to work.  WiFi works great though.

In theory it should be possible to bind the 2nd part to ide_cs. Whenever I try this I get a display freakout and the Z hangs. I will try again when we're on 2.6.13

I have the ide_cs part working on the Z, but hostap modules no longer recognise the card. Youll have to tell me what you did differently.

I used the patch that was posted in another thread here.
