Dsniff And Ettercap Help.
« on: January 27, 2006, 12:16:44 am »
I have a problem with dsniff and ettercap. Neither one will capture passwords. Everything else in ettercap works fine. I dont get any errors or anything it just wont capture passwords. I use dsniff and ettercap on my laptop and it works just fine. It tried with OZ, Pdaxrom and pocketworkstation, also 2 different network cards. Now im kinda stuck and dont know what to try next. Anybody have either of these working? I have a sl-5500.

I have a 3100 running the Sharp ROM and pocketworkstation under XQt. Using the chrooted Debian version of Dsniff works fine. I find the current release of ettercap awkward to use so I cant say if it works or not as I havent fully explored it. My card is an Ambicom WL1100C

I share your frustrations with OZ and the 5500. Following the instruction on Irongeek's website I could get Dsniff to work on ethernet but not on a wireless LAN. You might like to try tethereal which I have had some success with. Some well-chosen filters can be used to trap passwords but more importantly it will show if your Z is really capturing in promiscuous mode. You can get the binary here and get it working with a few symlinks. [a href=\"http://undertow.2y.net/zaurus/bin/]http://undertow.2y.net/zaurus/bin/[/url]

I've also got a 3000 running pdaXrom and chrooted Debian. On this device with the same Ambicom card, Dsniff does not work even if I put the card in monitor mode or do a ifconfig wlan0 promisc. I dont understand why this is so.
