Why Does My 2gb Cf Only Format To 10mb ?
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:08:50 pm »
Got another one....

Something happened to my Kingston 2GB CF card yesterday. When I inserted it into card reader in PC, it showed card empty...not sure what happened exactly....

So formatted card in PC/Win2K and when it was done it showed as only 10MB in size !!!

So tried formatting card again in Zaurus using fdisk and still only shows up as 10MB....

Could someone tell me how I should reformat card to get back 2GB???

Thanks,

Mark

Perhaps not the most technical suggestion, but I've previously fixed a flakey partition/MBR issue by sticking it into my Tungsten C and had it detect there was a problem and wipe it in a matter of seconds.

hmmmm.....seems strange as partition table shows that card has been partitioned..... who knows maybe I partitioned it by mistake.... on the other hand maybe I did it on purpose and just forgot......

Code: [Select]
Disk /dev/hda: 2097MB, 2097930240 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4065 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes

Device Boot    Start    End    Blocks   Id   System
/dev/hda1              1     20   10048+   6   FAT16
/dev/hda2            21     40   10080    83   Linux
/dev/hda3            41  4065  2028600 83   Linux

Do you have an Dell Axim X5? That looks like the partition layout for booting Linux on it, using Anpaza's demo.

You need to run mkfs with the proper parameters on the Linux partitions to make them show up on the Z.

No, Tom61....

But you're right about mkfs....I deleted those partitions in fdisk and created one large one and then ran mkfs and voila !!! ...I see my 2GB card again....
