Upgrading Sharp Rom Gone Bad! :(
« on: June 10, 2006, 06:38:16 pm »
Hello. I have been having alot of problems with my Zaurus SL5500 lately because of a very dumb mistake I made while trying to upgrade the ROM from myzaurus.com

I was using the synchronization software under Windows XP and everything was running smooth until I pushed the reset button too soon during the upgrade. I thought it was already done upgrading but I found out later that it actually didn't even begin to upgrade. It appears as if it only erased everything on the Zaurus.

Now, everytime I start the Zaurus, the following text appears under the red and white "SHARP" logo:

INIT: version 2.78 booting
INIT: No inittab file found
INIT: Entering runlevel: 5
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

This is very dissapointing to me because I just bought the Zaurus off eBay not even a week before this happened. I tried searching all over the internet and could only find a few other people with the same problem as me on the OpenZaurus website.

I tried flashing the Zaurus using a 64MB SanDisk CompactFlash card formated as "FAT" under Windows XP, and then loading it with the Ospack file from myzaurus.com or a zImage and init.bin file from this website. None of them had any effect when I pressed C+D and the Full Reset button. No green light turned on, as a matter of fact the orange battery light turns off as soon as I push the Full Reset button. I am sure the power cord is connected and the battery is fully charged and inserted correctly.

The Zaurus is not detected anymore when I plug it in to my computer.

This is very frustrating as all I was trying to do was get my Linksys WCF12 wireless card working and I heard it works without any problems under the newer ROM.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

does the dm menu have a flash restore? If yes then perhaps someone can do a flash backup and email it to ya or provide it here.

There is no flash restore on the 5500.

If you interrupted the flashing process while the flashing software was being written, you're in trouble.

Try flashing with the ospack file (download from Sharp) and see whether that will work.
