Suspend Fails
« on: August 23, 2006, 06:56:17 am »
Hello,

I have a 5600 with OZ/GPE 3.5.4.2 RC1. I currently have a few problems with it.

1. The suspend does not work. When I press suspend the system does not go to sleep, so its on all the time.

2. Another problem that I have is that I am not able to set the time. Every time I set it I get the message saying that I have to log out before the changes will be made. Once I log out and log back in the time does not change.

Has anybody had these problems?

I have the same problem with the unit not suspending.  I can suspend as root but not as a normal user.  I'm using OZ/GPE 3.5.4 on a 5500.

I can't suspend as either on the 5600. I'm getting an "Unsupported Kernel" Error on boot. Is yours the same?

I also have a 5600 with OZ/GPE 3.5.4.2 RC1.

1. I had the same problem with suspend. I removed the apmd package with the package manager, and now the suspend works (as user). I am sure there are other consequences of not having the apmd package installed. I will try reinstalling from the feed to see if that helps.

2. I also couldn't set time with the applet. I was able to make it work in terminal (as root) by
gpe_conf time
This brings up the same popup as the applet did but the changes stick (for me). Log out and back in to see the changes.

As far as the problem with the kernel version mismatch. I have read elsewhere that this is known. If you just let the init wait for the minute, it will continue and boot up fine. I am sure they will fix this for final release. Inconvenient but not a problem.

Actually, I bypass it instantaneously with Fn-C XP Just trying removing the apmd package. . .

Interestingly, my user account has no "Start" button.

Oh fantastic! I have my PDA back! Now I can install some software!

I had the same problems on an sl-5500.

I could suspend through the menue not with the cancel button. The cancel button use to freez my zaurus. Now I'm in opie but just in case I use the menue.

On the other hand setting the time was some kind of trouble on GPE also.

I allso had some problems with some users that couldn't log in that I could solve copying the users configuration files from a working one to a not working one.

I am not sure wether we should be putting a bug report for these problems if it is a common problem.

no bug report == no problem, so if you want people to fix it, file a bug

I've opened a bug on suspend not functioning for me after a while on my 3200 with OZ/GPE 3.5.4.1. If this seems similar to the problems in this thread, please add your comments to the bug:

Actually you'll want different bugs for different machines as this is presumably a kernel related issue and the 5500, 5600 and c3200 have different ones (and different versions too).

To those with issues with their 5500s and 5600s, are you running the latest release?

@Ferret-Simpson: You presumably flashed a kernel which is not the same version as was produced with the rootfs, did you do this on purpose? (this warning is there to catch the cases where something has been misnamed and so the kernel or rootfs don't flash correctly). If you're sure you meant to do this you can remove the script that performs the check (in /etc/init.d, called *check* or similar).

In the meantime, for those who can't use the hw button to suspend, try 'apm -s'

EDIT:

Oops, no wait, no I'm not.
