Tarball Of Beta4
« on: September 19, 2006, 12:32:22 am »
Does anyone have a tarball of a beta4 install available that I can use? I want to attempt to use it under altboot but I need the beta4 files. The install files contain rootfs.img and kernel.img but that is in jffs2 and ppcboot format respectively. I could probably build it myself if I had a PC to run the Builder but at the moment I just have my 2 Zauri to work with so any help would be appreciated.
I am getting sick of OZ since it has too many flaws in areas where there should not be any...
SL-C3000 - pdaXii13 build5.4.9 (based on pdaXrom beta3) / SL-C3100 - Sharp ROM 1.02 JP (heavily customised)
Netgear MA701 CF, SanDisk ConnectPlus CF, Socket Bluetooth CF, 4GB Kingston CF,  4GB pqi SD, 4GB ChoiceOnly SD, 2GB SanDisk SD USB Plus, 1GB SanDisk USB Plus, 1GB Transcend SD, 2GB SanDisk MicroSD with SD adaptor, Piel Frama Leather Case, GoldX 5-in-1 USB cable, USB hub, USB mouse, USB keyboard, USB ethernet, USB HDD, many other USB accessories...

would that be a way to run Pdaxrom Beta 4 on the C3000? I am too weary of OZ's many bugs, Opie works fine but doesn't have the apps I need, Gpe is far too experimental...

Dear Meanie,

I am trying to install the builder to get the files but it will probably
take a few days since I am not that skilled. May be sashz can help ?

Dear Meanie,

I have installed the builder and have done the first 2 steps as documented
in the pdaxrom-builder fast start. How do I build the rootfs.img and kernel.img ?
The only files in the bootdisk are the u-boot files.

BR,

Felix.

And yet you don't seem to have filed any bugreports in the bugtracker or elaborated on what those bugs are.

actually, I did file quite a few bugs until I got sick of filing them. oz is really a great distro in theory, clean and lean code, etc... however, when it comes to actual usage in terms of usability and productivity, it is a long way from being perfect. i don't expect oz to be perfect, but whenever someone mentions something about oz not being 100% perfect, then some people get very defensive which is very off putting to say the least.
and just so you know, I still think Sharp distro is the most stable and usable (with some tweaking) even though it is using older libraries and kernel.
imho, neither OZ/GPE, OZ/OPIE or pdaXrom is ready to replace the Sharp distro yet.
but still, i want to see what they have to offer which might persuade me to switch one day in the very far future....

Dear Meanie,

I have built the kernel.img and rootfs.img.
But then I cannot find the elusive rootfs tar files.
Will they be stored in the /tmp area ?

Felix.

Dear Meanie,

I've found the root files. Can you advise where I can upload them to you ?

Good Business... its good to see someone is putting a good effort towards getting the lastest release working one C3000 or getting to work using altboot  anyway...

??

I've not tried beta 4 or 5 (121)  but from what I've read it sounds even less stable and more experimental than OZ/GPE although I'd like to be proved wrong.

Why do you want beta 4 Meanie? Whats better/ more stable about this release than the latest pdaX? I would much rather see a 2.4 kernel based beta3 for the c3k.

Keep us updated please Meanie!
