4gb Sd Card Woes
« on: December 05, 2006, 04:53:24 am »
Ok I won't bore you all with the hellish time I've had trying to get this PQI 4Gb SD card working....

Basically I have a brand new card, and I believe it may have hardware issues, corrupted surface blocks etc. Does anyone know of a good way to check the card, only tool I have found so far is Paragon Partition Manager on XP which just says "Input/Output Error" when I try the surface scan.

So far the card IS actually working in my zaurus but I want to be sure it's not going to start corrupting.

I have ubuntu and XP at my disposal, any tools I can use to test it with?

The quality of these PQI 4GB SD card is questionable. I had to exchange it 3 times until I got a SD card that did not get corrupted. The current one works flawlessly though, but the 3 exchanges cost me time and a lot of lost files.

This is the 2nd card I've recieved as I already returned the first one because it was totally dead (although it did work to begin with).

So would you say that this one is also faulty based on Paragon reporting I/O errors? I don't really want to chance it, but I also have wasted countless hours on this already....

I have a 4G PQI.  I noticed that it came pre-partitioned with a lot of small partitions.  With Cacko and the large SD driver it worked but only when it was partitioned with the Z and would only work with the Z.  When I loaded pdaXrom r121 it noticed the card but would have issues.  I fdisked the card from r121 and took out all the small partitions and created two ext2 partitions.  One for data and another 512M partition for swap space.  Now it will read from my pc and the Z.  As well as any XP machine with ext drivers
C1000 w/...  Cacko Lite (When I use the Z alot for business)... pdaXrom (when I see something cool and want to try it.  Best way for me to learn shell commands)

I am trying to get my A-data 4GB card working. I read the faq and installed the tetsu package. It then says to edit /etc/sdcontrol. I can't find that file. What else do I need to do? When I plug it in and do dmesg|tail, it says:

pxafb: Power mode 0
pxafb: Power mode 480
pxafb: Power mode 480
SL-C3200 w/ pdaXii13 5.3
SL-C860 w/ OZ GPE 3.4.1
Accessories: 4GB Microdrive, 4GB Transcend SD, Linksys WFC12 CF 802.11b, Ambicom CF Modem, Socket Bluetooth

ouch. you really messed up there... that was only for beta3/beta1
lucky for you installing the testu modules won't clobber up your modules since kernel 2.6 modules are different and located elsewhere.

Doh! Can I remove the tetsu packages or will that hose things. I don't have any data and have only installed a couple of packages, so it is no big deal just to reload the ROM.
