Preview Of Nokia's Oss Browser 2.0

This sounds like it will be just what many Z users have been crying out for a long while- a fast, compatable, non-bloated yet feature-filled open source browser (based on khtml/Safari). Sounds like a vast improvement over v1!

Not meant to spoil here but isnt the S60 running Symbian/UIQ ?
Then having the sources alone will not lead that far

It's the same engine as gpe-mini-browser uses.

Surely this new osb version will be much more capable than gpe-minibrowser which, seeing as GPE 2.7 was released in Jan 2006 and gpe-minibrowser (based on OSS-browser 1.x, right?) having had virtually no work done on it since release, should make osb2a a better browser. The source of this new osb release is dated 4th December 2006.

I always thought it was better to actually check things before stating them, but it seems you are of a different opinion.

koen:

Does everyone on here have to prefix their every statement with a disclaimer along the lines of "To the best of my knowledge"/ AFAIK to avoid getting a sarcy comment off yourself? When I asked Florian about gpe-minbrowser about 2 months back he told me next to nothing had been done on it since 2.7 was released. Instead of trying to start an argument we would've been much better off if you had simply corrected me instead. I should be used to this by now I suppose.

So which is the superior browser for an X11 user- minibrowser latest or osb latest and why?

I've just had a quick go at compiling the latest webcore source but its obviously not configured to be compiled under unix- i couldn't see any configure file, linux makefile or any linux/gtk/X/gpe build instructions anywhere in the two archives. zip'd source archives and DOS formatted text files as presented here are standard clues the *nix user is out of luck

Has nobody compiled this or a recent gpe-mini-browser for the pdaX early betas or pdaXii13? I'm going to try compiling gpe-mini-browser svn for pdaXii13 but I've got the distinct impression I'd need to figure out how to build this latest webcore first and so can't see me getting very far.

I suppose googlemail under webcore 2.0/gpemb will look similiar to how it looks under konqueror i.e not fully supported (yet)
